Petsmart grooming

I brought my dog in for grooming at the Petsmart in McDonough, Georgia with instructions that she be groomed the same as she had the previous two summers, which was to shave her, but not to the skin and "shape up" her tail. I could not believe what I saw when I got...

My store is always short-handed and I am frequently alone for full shifts in the pet care department. One person to handle birds, small pet, reptiles, fish, and in whatever else the customer needs.

It is frustrating and I do hate making people wait for my services. Try to see it from the frazzled associates point of view.

PetSmart Hotel Neglects Animals

Refused service

last year my cat Sox was given a lion cut and a good grooming, date of service 5/18/2010. this year my cat and i were refused service 5/10/2011 by a new groomer because she said that my cat hissed at her and wouldn't come out of the carrier. Sox is a older cat(and has no front claws) she probably hissed and made a fuss like she always has in the past. you need to get a more competent cat groomer, she is sending business away. My cat, Sox and i will not be coming back.

Just because your cat doesn't have claws in her front feet, doesn't mean she can't *** the groomer. Cat bites have a 57-86% infection rate, vs.

dog bites with an infection rate of 15-27% infection rate. Not only that, but if Sox is an older cat, (s)he has a higher risk of having a seizure, stroke, heart attack, what have you that will result in their death. Which phone call would you rather get:

"I'm sorry, but I won't be able to groom Sox today. (S)he is a little too stressed out and is exhibiting signs of excessive stress and aggression.

We can try again in a couple weeks or so, since she might be having a bad day."

"I'm sorry, I was trying to groom Sox today and after several attempts to *** me, seems to have had a seizure. She's at Banfield / an emergency hospital now, but we need you to come in and pick up Sox after she gets finished at Banfield / the emergency hospital."

#332169

Every associate has the right to turn an animal away if s/he believes it is at risk of harming the groomer or itself. The groomer had your cat's best interests at heart.

Animals are in danger of serious health complications when stressed to such a level, not to mention that the risk of cutting the animal escalates when the animal is in distress.

It would probably be a much better idea for you to take your cat to a groomer at a veterinarian's office. The groomer did nothing wrong here.

#331973

Aggressive pets are usually refused service for the safety of other animals in the salon and the groomers in the salon. It's also a safety measure for YOUR cat.

How would you feel if the cat acted up during the groom and was cut?

You would be irate and blaming the groomer anyway. She was in the right for her actions.

#285845

maybe you need to learn how to groom your cat yourself if you think shes incompetent. have you ever tried to groom a cat?

my guess is no, therefore you cant possibly know the damage a cat can do.

animals have bad days just like people, the most common reason why cats are turned away is because if they are already stressed at coming out of the kennel and you push them further, the risk if them having a stroke or seizure outweights what the pet parent wants. sorry to say but YOUR pets health and safty come first, but by all means, if you want to traumatize your cat just dump him off and they will call you when he has to go to the emergency vet.

#284495

While it can be annoying that you go to an appointment for grooming only to get turned away, you need to look at it from the other perspective. If the cat is growling and hissing, it is stresed.

The groomer does not want to get bit, and yes getting bit is always a possibility with grooming, and also does not want to stress out the cat, you said it was older, stress can kill an animal. I have groomed for over 17 years, and yes you sometimes have to turn animals away, even if you have groomed them before.

Try another cat groomer, get the kitty out of the carrier for the groomer, and see how it goes. There are bad groomers and good groomers no matter where you go, whether petsmart, petco, or a mom and pop.

I've been a groomer for ten years. How does that happen..?

By be an excellent groomer and having your customers come to only you for service. I started through Petsmart, and have seen some really bad grooms come out of there. Most of my clients, have switched to me FROM Petsmart. I went private, because I hate corporations..

But their policies are accurate. I actually take them a step further. If the dog has fleas, whether they are hopping off the dog or visible to you.. If I see "flea dirt" I send them home and tell the owner to treat them before bringing them back.

To protect the other dogs in my shop. Also, I will not shave your double coated dog.. That is to protect your dogs skin and health.

Look up the medical issues these dogs have when shaved. Don't act like you know what you're talking about, if you're not a groomer.

Petsmart Grooming- Now my whole family has ringworm!

I took my cat to the Petsmart in Dallas off Dallas Pkwy/Inwood a month ago and slowly over the past month her hair started falling out. Now all three of my cats have ringworm as well as my husband and I. I guess they don't think it's necessary to clean any of their...

So I have just had the same problem. Reading the comments in here most likely some of you work for pets mart which is good.

However I took my dog on the 16th of January to the vet as I normally get a monthly check on him. Right after we took him to pet smart for grooming and the vary next day he had a small spot that we thought maybe he just was having a reaction to the shampoo. So we waited a week am to see if it got better but nothing. So we took him to the vet yesterday and the vet said it was most likely ring worms.

They did some test and ruled out some things but everything came back negative. The vet sent off some samples and said we should know the results for ring worms in a couple days.

There's no doubt in my mind that my dog contracted ring worms from getting groomed. Now that being said I can't say that I solely blame petsmart but if stuff like this happens then I think they should step up their cleaning procedures.

Don't board at Petsmart

Just returned from vacation and rushed to pick up our Lagotto Romagnolo from the East Hartford, CT. pet hotel. I wil never again use this place to board our pet. Had to wait to get her as they were understaffed. The person that did finally wait on us acted like we were bothering her. After eight day there she was totaly filthy. Her eyes were caked, her back end was covered in *** and she was matted beyond belief. They should be ashamed of the way she was... returned to up. DON'T USE THIS PLACE TO BOARD YOUR PET.

If you are going to return a dog cause it needs training then don't get a dog in the first place. I made that mistake a few times in my youth before I learned that it is difficult work.

However, now there is so much education available though on tv!

I made so many mistakes but now I can train a dog in minutes as I have with two strays currently staying in our apt with us. They jumped, bit, chewed anything they bumped into and in 4 days they know sit, lay down, no and good dog and even to sit before getting their food or getting their leashes put on.

But I've been able to stay with them 24/7 ...plan for getting a dog...take vacation time if you have it and crate train them right away. Positive reinforcement and quick simple communication, uses few words repeatedly and as soon as they even begin to do or stop what you are telling them works wonders.

First off, I doubt the sore was there bc of an additional 4 hours. It was most likely already formed.

Secondly, the reason you were turned away was prob bc the groomer didn't want to be accused of causing any medical problem...such as the sore. You pulling that off with a paper towel prob hurt the dog even worse.

You should have been a more responsible owner by checking the dog daily before the clump of **** begun or by taking it to a vet to be examined for any other problems, i.e. ruptured anal gland.

I'm a trainer at Petsmart and what you're claiming is total bologna. First off, the fact that you have disregarded so many comments because you feel their 'ignorant' is laughable and infact only shows your ignorance. As many others have stated Petsmart does not hire security.. So either this gentleman worked security for the plaza you were in or he may have been a store associate, otherwise there is a pretty big hole in your 'theory' that Petsmart is racist, or promotes racism, or that you're treated with prejudice because of the color of your skin. Again, as others have said, just becuse you were observed by 1 single individual all of 2 times proves nothing about the state of affairs of discrimination in our culture. In my store, I have 'followed' a number of customers be it because I was suspicious of their intentions or to observe if assistance is neccesary. I always greet anyone I see with a friendly "hello" but if it appears that an individual has a specific purpose and doesn't require assistance I leave it at that. Perhaps that is what this gentleman was doing. Either way, I assure you that not only does Petsmart not miss your 'business' but you infact are the time of person that we would prefer not to have in our establishment. Be it a false sense of entitlement, your own prejudices or simply your own ignorance. The treatment you recieve has not a thing to do with your age, gender, or skin color. Furthermore at the very least you are projecting your own racism, which I'm sure you will deny. Yet your profiling of this white security guard following you, only because you're black is a beacon of your absolute ignorance. I can only hope that my post is 'worthly' of a response from you, so that I can hear more about how everyone else is wrong, and you recieve unjust treatment.. Because you're black? Asinine.

p.s I hope that wasn't too much reading for you.

All dogs should be supervised while playing. For moderate to aggressive chewers, no dog toy will hold up, even the extreme Kong rubber toys are not strong enough.

Why should a store take a loss for a used chewed up toy?

Know your dog, it's the owner's responsibility. You should not return used toys back to the store.

PetSmart Banfield animal hospital

I found a kitten that was starving, she was about two months old and weighed 3 pounds. I took her to PetSmart Banfield Hospital in East Hanover New Jersey for a check up. I was charged $48.95 for the visit, $56.15 for a blood test the test came back positive, the kitten had Leukemia. I was told to put the animal to sleep, I was very upset and I agreed with the vet. They then charged me an additional $149.00 to put her to sleep and cremate her. Total bill was $254.10 What a rip off Elaine from Chatham

I work at a veterinary clinic - and sorry to burst your bubble but it costs money to take care of an animal and if you can't afford it, no one forced you to get one. People really need to think about their financial, living, and mental situation before taking on the responsibilities of a pet.

#279107

Honestly, those prices are not out of line. That is how much most vets will charge and even sound on the low end.

#279024

I don't see they recommended you euthanize the cat just because it had leukemia. Cats can live happy lives with leukemia.

#259432

sorry about your rescued kitten, but I have to agree with greg. when someone brings an animal into a vet clinic they assume the responsibility of the bill. Honestly, it doesn't seem like you were overcharged for anything.

#259415

I really don't feel that anything is out of line, here. Things cost money.

#259212

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way about your experience at Banfield. Please know that Banfield requires client permission, with a signature, for all procedures and their prices. If you feel this permission was not given by you, then please let us know.
