1. Having an issue with one groomer one time doesn't mean every groomer at that store or any other petsmart is bad.

2. It is very difficult to groom a puppy especially one who has never been groomed or has been catered to it's whole life. It is something totally new; new people, new smells and noises. So of course it is going to wiggle or worst case scenario scream or ***. It's all about training, something that has to be repeated and learned.

3. Yes groomers need to be careful of what they say because it is easy to come in at the wrong time or take it out of context. Groomer probably didn't mean they would break the dogs arm but that if it continues it could hurt itself. I have had plenty of dogs that are freaked out and spinning around and all I am doing is holding their foot. But if all I'm doing is holding the foot and the dog jerks or rolls the wrong way he could hurt himself. But that goes back to the training, if you let go the dog will know that if it continues to act that way you will stop. However if you saw a dog get hit you should have told a manager, that is completely unacceptable and grounds for termination.

All I'm saying is don't judge all of us by one bad experience with one groomer.

#356713

If you actually heard the groomers exact words were "I am going to break your arm" YOUR JUST AS GUILTY FOR NOT CALLING OUT THE GROOMER ON IT WHEN IT WAS SAID!

Puppies are extremely hard to groom.

They need to get use to it with starting out with just a bath, maybe face cleaned up, feet, and sani done. They need to go once a month if they are puppies to get use to it.

Its the owners job to train them for grooming by bringing them. YA get a good pair of clippers, about $140 bucks, shears and try doing it at home :) Guarantee you will cut your dog and end up at the vets.

#350979

I have seen one of their groomers hit a dog upon the head and heard one say " I'm going to break your arm if your not careful!" I do not want my dogs in there care.

#334580

ummm you have any idea how hard it is to groom a puppy???...you cant handle a puppy super gently for a haircut..you need to be firm or you will stand at the table all day while you sweet little puppy *** and bites and screams bloody murder...how about you buy clippers and groom your own puppy...

Pet Smart Pelham Underfeed my pets

During July 2011 my two cats were boarded while I was away at Pet Smart in Pelham, NY. I left specific instructions on a paper, spoke to a worker on the phone later to clarify instructions and I was even specific enough to have labeled the cans with a black sharpie on the amount to be fed. I called after they were picked up on the 24th to tell them I was disappointed in their service. They had underfed my cats. The first cat was underfed by what is the equivalent to 10 meals(5 cans), the second cat was underfed by 8 meals(2 cans). When the manager read my handwritten instructions when I called to make the complaint, she claimed I wrote 1/8 of a can for my 1st cat. I told her I doubt I did that and if they could not read my handwriting a 16 pound cat would not eat just 1/8 of a can whether on a diet or not. I also told her, I spoke to the caretaker on the phone to tell her specific instructions and had instructions marked on each can. She later admitted I wrote on the paper 1 can total a day for my first cat on the handwritten sheet. The reason for such concern was he is borderline diabetic, if he got too much food he would not loose weight and would need insulin. If he didn't eat just enough for his weight they can get what is called hepatic lipidosis. I was very clear when I spoke to them over the phone because my vet gave me very specific instructions to follow. They were of no help and didn't think what they did was wrong.

I would like to let you know that what a mat can do to your dog. 1.

The reason they must be shaved and not brushed out is it can cause serious skin irritation and even bleeding or sores. If you wish to have the mats brushed out you can inflict the pain on the poor puppy yourself which you obviously wont cause you don't even want to brush it to prevent mats. 2. NEVER EVER EVER try to remove mats by cutting the out yourself.

I hear so many people saying that they do this. Mats can pull on the dogs skin up into the mat and if you attempt to cut it with scissors you will most likely only end up cutting your dogs skin. 3. If mats are not removed from your dog they can cut off the circulation to your dogs skin and cause bruising.

In very severe cases a mat and actually become so tight that it will fall off taking the skin it was attached to with it. I have seen this several times myself.

So if you look at it from this new point of view shouldn't you be glad that your groomer took interest in whats best for your dog? Would you really want your 7 month of puppy to go through so much agony?

Petsmart manager laughed at me when complaining about frequent "out of stock" situation re:dog food.

The Petsmart store management in Winter Garden, Florida laughed at me when I complained about frequent "out of stock situation" on dog food I wanted to purchase. With all of the existing dog food inventory the manager believed I should make an alternate purchase rather than buy the brand wanted. Not only did management find "out of stock" funny, they also claimed the District Manager places the dog food orders for the store rather than the store Winter Garden store manager or store personnel. I believe in this story, I was also lied to. I would never visit this store again and when ever I have the opportunity I say what I can to prevent others from shopping at the Winter Garden, Florida Petsmart as well.

The manager did lie to you. Retail chains generally have inventory autofilled after it reaches a certain number.

DMs have nothing to do with it.

However, that is not to say that they can't do anything about it. There is probably a way for them to contact the warehouse via email, and increase the automatic fill.

This way they won't run out next time. This process is done all the time in other (smaller and larger) retailers.

#317994

Unless you are buying a premium brand of dog food, the management at PetSmart and the employees at PetSmart will always suggest an alternative brand that is better for your dog. Unless it was a premium brand food, you can go to your nearest grocery store and get the food.

PetSmart stores do not place their own orders. It is handled at a higher level. They never know what is going to be on the truck.

You can call the store before you make the trip to see if the food you wanted is in stock.

Petsmart sold me a ringworm infected guinea pid

I also purchased a guinea pig from petsmart. We had the guinea pig around 2 weeks when it started losing hard around his nose and getting red and sore looking.

I didn't think much of it at the time. I called around to vets to have him seen, but that night his nose had improved about 80% so did not follow through with the vet appointment. One week later by daughter now has ringworm on her stomach. Which after doing some research I feel like she contracted it from her guinea pig.

I will get the correct medication for both, just wish that petsmart would watch selling these animals like this.

I am a single mom who now has to pay out more money then was necessary all for this guinea pig that my daughter just loves. I'm not the happiest right now.

Petsmart Hurt My Dog

I work at Petsmart, in a different department, and everyone in our store knows, you can't shave certain breeds. It's bad for their skin, can cause all sorts of skin problems including lesions- not just sunburn, and we deter customers with certain breed dogs from having their dogs shaved, and to try another method.

Don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. Most stores would at least forgo your grooming cost, ESPECIALLY with the knowledge that they should have advised an alternative to shaving your dog.

I was confused about the furminator when I went in as well. On the sign on their counter is says $3-$5 extra for furminator so I thought what a great deal and asked for it.

However the price ended up being $25 more than I had paid the last time. They explained that even though it says $3-5 with a bath, you have to buy the premium bath. Confusing. I have only taken my dog there twice.

The first time it was great.

The second time, not so much. Do they keep a record of who grooms your dogs so you can request the same groomer?

I bought a furminator for 39.00 or less. It is a comb with blades that cut the hair while you are combing thru.

I thought I was a good idea to try. It works well! I have two super fur ball cats! Shepard hair will work even much better.

Save your money with pets mart and buy a furminator on line or at any pet supply store. It's as simple as combing your own hair!

Shame that manager!!!! Grrrrr

Don't go to Petsmart for grooming.

Do not use Petsmart groming for any doodles. They ended up shaving both of mine and I mean in most places all I have is skin left. After we specifically instructed not too short. Do not go to the Loganville GA store for grooming. They have no clue about skin issues in specific breeds and I think they hire high school students and give them a shaver and save have at it. Don't go there..I am one unhappy customer and a mommy of 2, what was, beautiful shepadoodles. Now they are having to stay confined in the house, since it is summer and they are at risk for issues with the Sun since I see mostly skin. Don't go there!!!!

Petsmart shaves dogs. thats what they do!

#351824

first of all a "shepadoodle" is NOT a breed!! it's a designer mutt.

so there is no such thing as "skin issues" for this mixed breed.

Unfortunately when a dog is even slightly matted, it is less trauma to the skin and coat to shave the dog short, then to sit there and rip, brush, dematt the coat. perhaps you should learn how to groom your own dogs, so you will understand this.

#334577

i agree that she probably brought her dogs in matted...im not sure how putting in the "mommy of two" means...like we are supposed to think that she must take great care of her pets cause shes a mom..maybe the groomer should have specifically instructed you to take your dogs home and brush them...

#330388

we have had to shave many "doodles" because of matting. i agree with dog_groomer 100% no one wants to brush and comb their dog and expect us to put it through torture to get the mats out.

which we will NOT do!! by the way i'm in my 40's not a high school student.

#305363

I groom for Petsmart, and 9 times out of 10, customers bring in their doodles MATTED SOLID. I guarantee that's what this person did.

People get these dogs because they're "designer breeds" and don't even take into consideration the amount of maintenance they need. YOU MUST BRUSH AND COMB THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! If you don't, your dog WILL GET MATTED, and then guess what? The groomer WILL HAVE TO SHAVE IT!

People are so worried about what the dog is going to look like that they don't even care about the comfort of the dog. Do you have ANY IDEA what it feels like for a dog to be matted? And then to tell us not to cut it short. What do you expect us to do?

Pull a magic wand out of our *** and make them disappear? I wish people didn't always act like they know my job better than I do.

If you think you could do a better job, then maybe you should take your dog home and groom it yourself. Then you'll see that our job is not so easy.

#303385

Just curious what conditions were the dogs coats in? I'm betting they were so matted they had to be shaved. Most people who complain about dogs being shaved usually bring them in in such bad shape there isnt much else that can be done.

#302024

I agree. petsMart is a joke when it comes to grooming. i worked there many years ago and it was a wreck.

PetSmart Groeming Salons

I Mrs. Figueroa had spend hundreds of dollars in pet smart insurance so why is it so hard for the groeming Salons having any access to medical records from my dog Mickey , I understand why they need the medical records I just do not understand why pet smart groeming have NO access to the Medical records . I was unable to keep the appointment .... Yes I am very PISSED OFF , there must be a better way so that your customers are happy. This is really unfair i know a lot of your customer and i will give them a call ! Unhappy Hairy DOG.

What is "groeming"?

#309011

GROEMING LOL

#308300

Here is what I do not understand, if you spend so much money trying to take care of your dog, why wouldn't you be responsible enough to keep all the records of that money you spent. All of my dogs paper work is filed away.

I can keep track of all my dogs records and I have 4 dogs! AND petsmart stores don't have linked computers. How could they?

If they did there would be so much customer information that it would be almost impossible to find one single dog. And fyi, there is no such thing as petsmart insurance.

#304993

If you are referring to the Banfield Wellness plans when you say "petsmart insurance", all you or the grooming salon would have had to do is walk over (or even call) the Banfield-which is inside the store-and obtain the medical records. The only reason you would have had to cancel the appointment is if your pet's vaccines were not up to date or you do not in fact receive your pet's healthcare from Banfield. Good luck next time!!

#303386

If you were asked for a copy of your dogs medical records you wouldnt go to petsmart grooming salon to get them would you? You would go to the vet office to get them so what makes you think the grooming salon would have access to your dogs medical records?

#301612

Maybe with some of your hundreds of dollars you can invest in a class that teaches both spelling and grammar.

Also, petsmart insurance, petsmart salons, and banfields do not have their computers linked. It is YOUR responsibility to provide YOUR animal's shot records, no one elses.

PetsMart Employee told me try try Petco...what????

I recently stopped into my local PetsMart to purchase Redbarn Bully Sticks. My wife and I have purchased them for well over a year and were always happy with the quality. On this week's visit, I noticed that my normal bully stick were replaced by another (Dentleys??) Unsure of the quality ( they looked very dark and greasy), I asked the young man in the next aisle about the Redbarn brand. He informed me that the Redbarn had been discontinued and replaced by their own brand; Dentleys. Since our dog has always done well with the Redbarn treats, I asked him if he knew where else I could try and he said "I would try Petco"....I was shocked!!! Well, I did try Petco for the first time. I found my Redbarn treats and Petco found a new customer. Thomas J. Bees

How the *** is this even a complaint?

#414169

I work for Petsmart. If a customer needs a certain product and our store does not carry it, I see no reason why I cannot recommend that they go where I know they can find it.

I've recommended specialty pond stores, bird stores, Petco, and even Home Depot. My job it to help the "pet parent".

#357589

I work at PetSmart, and I have to agree with everyone else who said they would guide the customer to another store to find what they're looking for. We try to help the dogs and the Pet Parents (not all of us are caught up in the corporate drift of money money money).

It's better for the dog to continue on what they're used to rather than changing and perhaps messing up their digestion. Also, for awhile my PetSmart didn't sell soap-free shampoo (which the brand we sell now still isn't the greatest), so I guide customers to Petco or online to buy it. If oatmeal shampoo isn't helping their dog's dry coat, then they need the soap-free.

Why should the dog have to suffer just so we can make more money on that product that is really just a waste? Now, if I truly believe a change in product will not harm the dog, or even be beneficial, then I will gladly suggest something new to the pet parent.

#332526

I will sometimes direct a customer to PETCO as well...especially if we are out of a product that is required immediately.

It's the right thing to do...and I think doing the right thing always makes for better business.

#331960

Oh, and my store still stocks Red Barn as well. We've had Dentley's since I started working there over a year ago.

#331958

It's not my first option, but if my store is out of a particular product a pet parent is looking for, and they're asking me for other options, I have no problem telling them where the other nearby competitors are. Some of you people don't understand how hesitant to change people are.

Most of our customers come looking for one product, and if we don't have it, they don't want anything else. Nothing else I can do besides try to be as helpful I can be and lead them in a positive direction.

#328515

My Petsmart still carrys RED BARN prodroducts.

#323770

I have told people numerous times to g try PETCO, if we do t have what your looking for, and you don't want to change brands then I would rather tell you where you might find it rather than be a *** about it.

#309410

I am sure that when people come into Santini's store and asks him where else he can get Slurpees, he promptly suggests Jamba Juice...Hey Nimrod, basic retail...if you don't have what the customer asks for, try guiding him in another direction in YOUR store....not the competitor.

Santini...can you show me where you keep the straws????
