On Monday October 14, 2013 I brought my dog – Obie to be groomed as I have every month for the past 4 years. I dropped him off late morning and was called to pick him up in the late afternoon. Obie was with me the rest of the day. That evening he began throwing up. I assumed they had given him some kind of treat that wasn’t agreeing with his stomach. He threw up again the following night.

On Wednesday October 16th I went back into the Petsmart Grooming to have my other dog Rocky groomed. I specifically asked them to make a note on my record that my dogs were NOT to be given any treats or food. They told me they didn’t give him anything. Then I asked if there was any way he had had access to something, again I was told no. His groomer was Loren, normally it was Emily, but that was who was available at that time.

By Thursday Obie wasn’t eating and Thursday night he was throwing up consistently. First thing Friday morning I took him to the vet who performed a number of tests, blood work and ultimately x-rays. The x-rays indicated a blockage of his stomach and it appeared to be entering his intestine. I rushed him to the Emergency clinic where they performed surgery that evening.

The surgeon called me to advise me that his stomach was completely filled up with paper towels with a design on them and some thin red plastic. I have pictures. I do not have any paper towels in my house with designs or stripes on them . I have taken pictures of what was recovered from his stomach and the doctor will testify that it is paper towels with a design on them.

I went back to the Petsmart on Saturday per the surgeon’s advise to determine what happened. Instead of understanding and trying to help me figure out what had happened, I was met with no cooperation from any of the staff and all that was provided to me was an 800 number to call.

While there, I did witness a dog tethered to the leg of a sink. I did look thru the door to the back room. If this had been done to my dog and any trash was near by he would have eaten it. There was no one watching that dog and I assume the same negligence is what occurred with Obie, and trash of some sort was left for him to eat.

Petsmart denys any responsibility and will not provide me any response in writing. My vet expenses were approximately $5,000 due to their negligence.

Monetary Loss: $5000.

Location: Smyrna, Georgia

Wow maybe neglect? I would say so they should have told you and been keeping a better eye on your dog poor baby I hope obie recovers soon!......and to the person saying its a grooming shop not a babysitting service wow I hope your not a groomer!!!

Grooming clinic or not arn't they trained in pet care, so in other words they should have been more careful. What if the dog got into some chemical and died.

You know what happened....your dog some how decided to chow down on some towels...was it neglect...maybe/maybe not.....They are a grooming clinic....not a baby sitting service. And if they had locked him in a cage all day....you would be whinning about that too I guess.

Its a dog....dogs do...dog things....and I have seen them eat far worse. Next time stay with your dog until complete
