NEVER BUY A PetSmart HAMSTER
My sister purchased a long hair hamster as a gift for me from the Robinson Twp, PA Petsmart. The girl informed my sister that the hamsters in the "other batch" were all sick with Wet Tail, but assured her that my hamster was in a different batch.
So she bought him for me and I immediately fell in love, as he was very cute and very sweet. However, I quickly noticed that he was having diarrhea problems. He was still very active so I thought maybe it was just stress from environment changes. After another 1.5 days, the problem did not go away so I took him back to Petsmart.
I told them I did not want to exchange him for another hamster. They told me to return him and then they would treat him and call me about his progress. I was assured that, since he was still active, he should "definitely" get better. If he got better I would get to buy him back.
So I dropped him off and called nearly every day to check on his progress and was continually told that he was improving. I went away for the weekend and did not call for a couple of days. My mom then called to see how he was doing and they told her that my hamster had died the night before. I did not receive a single call from Petsmart.
In addtion we found out that they had told us several lies. We were informed that my hamster came in a different batch than the sick hansters...untrue. We were told that all of the hamsters that got sick made a fill recover...several, if not all of them died.
I do not believe my hamster received proper treatment and am sure they just put him in a cage with all the other hamsters that were more sick than he was. I will never shop at Petsmart again.

Same thing happened to me.
Contact your veterinarian!! You need FLAGIL!! Stops wet tail completely!
We Just bought a hamster from Petsmart in Silverdale WA who suffered a similar fate of dying from what appeared to be wettail. More shocking was the rude, unsimpathetic behaviour of the staff at this store.
We made 3 different phone calls to this store all in the same day hoping to help my poor lil hamster. They were rude, would not give me their names or the managers name. When I informed them I'm leaving a review of them online they responded that it didn't matter. They told me to leave all the bad reviews I want because they said they make sure to contradict all bad online reviews to keep their online ratings up.
I will be writing corperate next. I found this on their website..."PetSmartโs core value of Caring is the foundation of our Ethics & Integrity Program. We Care for our customers, associates and communities and believe that our Ethics & Integrity Program is key to strengthening our unique culture. Having a consistent roadmap to guide our behaviors and decisions will help us remain successful and true to our mission.
We have established a foundation of trust with our customers, associates, and communities, and itโs up to us to do the right thing and protect this reputation". The inadequate care of this hamster, the cold, uncaring demeaner of their staff and the rudeness exhibited toward me when I called is in direct contradiction to their Core Value of Caring they claim is the foundation of their business
Got my two hamster (winter whites) from pet smart on tuesday night, one was very active and another slept all the time Friday night (today) the one that always slept and I barely ever saw died I went to clean the cage because I noticed my room stank and there she was in her house with her live sister cuddled into her and no her sister didnโt kill her. I was also told they could be housed together because they were sisters. am so upset because the one hamster seemed sick from the start.
The same exact thing happend to me
Different pet smarts can be bad and some are good with hamsters. I mostly prefer if they would autchually be smart about their pets.
My hamster is also suffering of skin issues. While at the vet I heard the receptionist speaking to another person with the same issue.
We both had adopted our hamster from Petsmart. Heartbreaking
I have no idea what happened but I put my robo hamster in a plastic bin that is bigger than desired. Many toys, lots of water, lots of food, not to hot or cold.
I loved her and took care of her very well as well as I tamed her! After 3 months I checked in the morning and she was lying there dead all of a sudden. So I burried her in my back yard as I was very upset. The next day I got another hamster which was a syran.
After 2 weeks of taking good care she all of a sudden was found dead the next day. This has happened to me 4 times in a row. All the hamsters I have purchased was in petsmart. I am really upset as I am also loosing my allowance.
I hope they could stop this abuse or whatever and take care of healthy hamsters. (Sorry for my bad grammar and spelling
that happened to my hamster too ! but i didnt get my money back!
If you don't know what you're looking for...You shouldn't be buying a hamster in the first place. Most hamsters die because of someone's ignorance
Your rude n mean. Your blaming in the buyer
You are a bad person.
Wow I heard petsmart beat their animals not saying they all do but they are many pics and vids on the news saying that. If these people truly loved pets they wouldn't treat them this way.
Many animals have actually died at petsmart of petco. It's very shocking. I went to a petsmart to get some dog food for my dog and I came across them saleing more dogs. I fell in love with a tiny brown female yorkie.
They told me she was potty trained and when ever she spun around to chase her tail that she would need to go outside. So I said ok and bought her. I came home with her and saw she was chasing her tail so I took her out she does nothing outside. I take her back inside and she did the same thing.
Many tries till I gave up. I had put her in her cage to go eat and I got back and she had pooped in her own cage. Many months later she was never trained. Petsmart is a lie and will always be.
Later on in the years I had to move in with my friend in their hotel. The hotel sadly didn't allow pets so I had to give Rosie(the yorkie) and Champ my mutt

Yasssssssssssss!!!!!!!!
Do not buy hamsters from big chain pet stores. These animals are shipped from large breeding industries where all animals are forced to breed.
They do not receive proper medical care, food, or water. They are abused and mistreated.
The animals that are bought from these pets stores and are either returned from owners because they are sick or injured are shipped back and killed. It is a very inhumane industry.
My hamster died 3 weeks after I adopted it. And I brought it from petsmart. Turns out they were all sick hamsters with diseases...Miss my Love
I am just going to say that petsmart is a good store but there was one employee that lied to my cousin and said that the all ***..... I didn't know so I got one and It doesn't *** the lady was lying but thankful she wasn't the one that attended me she only attended my cousins but when I got my hamster 2 nice employees helped me pick the perfect one!!!! But still don't believe everyone cause some people have some thoughts but others have other thoughts!!!!
Now i know not to shop there.
I am so sorry to hear this. RIP little hammy.
I agree that Petsmart should have done something more to help your pet, but you shouldn't be SUPER angry with Petsmart. Most of the associates are trained to give information about the animals, and nothing more. I don't think the staff knew what to do about the sick hamster. Believe me, what they did was wrong, I am not denying that.
Petsmart is a great supplies store, and the pets I have gotten from them have been healthy. If you ever want another hamster, I suggest these breeders:
Mad About Hamsters
Harvey Hams
P.S.
I am not under employment by PetSmart, and I am not trying to make you buy their products or anything. :)
